Dr Amy Joy BDS MFDS MCGDent Dip.MJDF D Spec Care Dental RCSEd
Originally from Cockermouth, Amy completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery with a Merit in Academic Dentistry from Newcastle University in 2011. She returned to Cumbria and worked within the Special Care and Community Dental Service from 2014-2023, completing her Diploma in Special Care Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and becoming Clinical Lead in 2021. She has nearly 9 years’ experience in providing dental treatment under both inhalation sedation with nitrous oxide and oxygen and intravenous sedation with midazolam. She enjoys treating patients of all ages with the aim that every patient under her care feels at ease. Her wealth of knowledge and experience in sedation greatly helps with this, as does her attention to detail and caring and friendly nature.
Amy Joy will be accepting referrals to Kerrypark Dental Practice, where she will be providing treatment as both operator/ sedationist and dedicated sedationist for her colleagues. The types of sedation will include:
- Inhalation sedation with nitrous oxide and oxygen for children and adults
- Intravenous sedation with midazolam for patients 16 years of age and over
The patient will be seen mainly for a thorough assessment where all available treatment options will be discussed and the patient can make an informed decision. Amy is happy to provide periodontal treatment, extractions (including orthodontic extractions), both direct and indirect restorations and root canal treatments to ASA I and II patients. All referring dentists will need to complete the referral form fully with details of any previous or attempted dental treatment as well as any relevant radiographs. Please note that extraction referrals will only be accepted if a radiography showing the entire root morphology is attached and please include any Orthodontist/Consultant letters if relevant. Please upload digital radiographs via the form below or email to amy.joy@nhs.net
Amy is more than happy to discuss any particular needs or concerns with both patients and referring practitioners. The practice will contact your patient upon receiving the referral and we aim to provide the initial 30 minute consultation within 4 weeks. Upon completion of treatment, the patient would be discharged back to your care with a letter detailing what treatment has been provided and any recommendations. Amy is very much looking forward to working with you to provide the highest quality care for your patients.
